Training

Puppy Head Start- This training stage begins around 12 weeks of age. During this process we introduce the puppy to basic commands, gunfire, live birds, and marks on land and water. Setting them up for a seamless transition into the rest of the program.

Started Gun Dog- This level of training consist of formal obedience, collar conditioning, and force fetch. A dog at this level will be able to complete single retrieves out to 100 yards and deliver to hand. Started/Junior hunt test level.    Avg. 20 weeks for completion

 

Handling Gun Dog - This level of training consist of a dog that is steady to shot, capable of double marked retrieves out to 100 yards, and blind retrieves to 75 yards. Seasoned/Senior hunt test level.  

Avg. 40 weeks for completion

 

Finished Gun Dog/ Field Trial/ Hunt Test Competitor - This level of training creates the ultimate hunting companion. This dog is capable of completing multiple marked retrieves and complex blind retrieves. AKC Field trials (Derby, Qualifying) and AKC Master hunt test.

 

Pre-Season Tune up -   Training to get your retriever back in shape before the start of the upcoming hunting season. Evaluation required if not previously in our program. Contact  for more details.

Pet Obedience  - 4 week basic on leash obedience emphasizes essential pet obedience and manners that are ideal for a household dog. This includes training in commands such as sit, down, place, come when called, leash manners, and greetings. 
 

6 week advance obedience builds upon the foundation of the basic 4 week program by adding an extra 2 weeks dedicated to off-leash control. This program is perfect for dog owners who want to enjoy activities like beach outings, hiking, and outdoor adventures with the freedom of having their dog off-leash.

We strongly encourage all new puppy owners interested in our program to contact us and discuss what they should and shouldn't be doing to prepare them for training.

All dogs entering Doyle's Farm Kennels must have a copy of veterinary documents showing that their dog is up to date on all of its current shots including ( Canine Distemper, Infectious Canine Hepatitis, Canine Parvovirus, Leptospira canicola,and L. icterohaemorrhagia a Respiratory Disease caused by Canine Adenovirus Type 2 and Parainfluenza, and Rabies.)

The first month of training must be paid in full up front upon arrival at DFK.  All veterinary bills acquired during your dogs stay at DFK will be paid in full by the owner of the retriever.  Monthly fee includes Purina Pro Plan dog food. Any extra food cost would be the responsibility of the owner.
